Aiken families are beginning the clean up process after the tornado that swiped through parts of southwest Aiken on Sunday.

Aiken Tornado Classified As EF-2

River Bluff, a subdivision just off Silver Bluff Road, suffered some of the worst damage.

One couple showed us the inside of their home where trees had come through several different parts of their roof and wrecked their back porch.

The River Bluff Recreation Center is now wrapped with yellow crime scene tape and is off-limits to everyone due to the unsafe conditions. The area, which was once a playground to kids, has uprooted trees scattering the ground.

“I get inside and I just hear the bottom dropping and I hear wind howling everywhere. I see bushes flying everywhere, my front yard was flooding, really, it was pretty bad. I went and got my cats and I just sat and watched it,” an Aiken resident told us.

Our Margaret-Ann Carter is in Aiken now with the National Weather Service survey crew, who has confirmed that a tornado did touch done in the area. We do not know, at this time, what strength the tornado is being classified as.

We will continue to follow this developing story and provide the latest information as it becomes available.
