Aiken South Carolina experienced severe weather damage Sunday afternoon.
Though reports of a tornado haven’t been confirmed by the national weather service… Aiken residents swear that’s what swept through their neighborhoods around 4 pm today.
Several neighbors in Aiken are dealing with the aftermath of what they believe was a tornado. Massive trees were completely uprooted, while downed power sparked fire off of Pine Log road.
Michelle Ennis says she drove to a nearby gas station to get some milk before the storm rolled in, but she was caught off guard when the wind started shaking her van.
“So I just got in the floor board of the van and called my friend and said ya’ll get in the closet,” Ennis said.
She says trash cans and trees were flying every which way.
Lt. Jason Mahoney with the Aiken Department of Public Safety says South West Aiken had the worst damage.
Neighbors say they’re just amazed at how fast the storm came in and wrecked their homes.
“It was amazing how much a block’s difference can change how you can be driving up from one side and not see anything and turn o here and it be you know this bad,” Sam Owens said.
