Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree called a press conference Monday morning to talk about “Operation Mayday”.

“Operation Mayday” is a joint undercover investigation involving several law enforcement agencies targeting online child predators.

During the 4-day operation, 22 “predators” were arrested. Those arrested ranged in age from 19-years-old to 52-years-old. They’re accused of traveling to areas around Augusta and South Carolina with the intent to meet a child for sex.

The special agent over this operation says these included people of all different backgrounds. Some of their occupations included an actor, funeral home director, correctional officer, and pharmacy technician. They even arrested people who worked with children.

Sheriff Roundtree says more arrests could be coming and that, so far, “Operation Mayday” is a success.

We will continue to follow this developing story and provide the latest information when it becomes available.
